Managing Oneself

Peter Drucker wrote a classic article in a 1999 issue of the Harvard Business Review about developing your skills. His article, "Managing Oneself," advocates knowing and developing your strengths. As he says, "It takes more energy to improve from incompetence to mediocrity than to improve from first-rate performance to excellence." It takes receiving feedback - both from others and an honest self-evaluation of your performance - to get this knowledge. Once you understand your strengths and weaknesses, Drucker recommends improving your strengths first, and not getting ensnared by those other talents that you have not developed.
